Hi, I'm Ken Savage, the owner of the KS Roadshow. I live in North Birmingham with my wife and family.
Why do I work as a DJ? Well it all started when I was a teenager, attending family parties and seeing the DJ entertaining the crowd and getting everyone up dancing. But this was not the case with every DJ. To be honest some of them were not very well suited to the task, hiding behind their equipment and not communicating with the crowd.
One party really sticks in my mind, it was a surprise 40th birthday party for an Aunt. Despite the fact that most of the guests were in their 30s, 40s & 50s, the DJ played the same music all night long. Are you old enough to remember "acid house rave"? As you can imagine, this went down like a lead balloon and lots of people complained. But no matter what, that was all he played. It turned out that this was the only type of music he had.
Well much has happened since then. Gone are the days of vinyl 12" singles, and even the CD has met its match (although we still carry a dual CD system as a back-up). Most professional DJs now use a laptop computer system, so there are no scratches & no jumps, just crystal clear music.
Quality is very important to my clients and providing a quality service is very important to me. During every party I check with my clients to ensure everything is to their liking, and at the end of the evening I ask them to fill in a customer comments slip, so that I can keep on improving the service I deliver. I carry a broad spectrum of music, everything from the 50s to current chart music, over 6000 tracks in total and growing weekly. I will play requests for your guests and if you have a play list of songs that are important to you, no problem, I'll play them.
I think image is an important factor when it comes to providing a professional service, so I always dress to fit in with the occasion. For weddings and corporate events I will normally wear black tie and dinner jacket. Maintaining my equipment is just as important so it is cleaned every week and any paint scratches are touched up and bulbs replaced.
